  • Gombe Stream

Gombe National Park (often, but incorrectly, called "Gombe Stream National Park"), is located in western Kigoma Region, Tanzania, 10 miles (20 km) north of Kigoma, the capital of Kigoma Region. Established in 1968, Gombe is one of the smallest national parks in Tanzania, with only 13.5 square miles (35 km2) of protected land along the hills of the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika.

The park can only be reached by the waterways; through the boat and it is an outstanding experience to find the Kasekela chimpanzee community, featured in several books and documentaries swinging on the branches of the trees.

The hybridization of the Red-tailed and blue monkeys with over 200 bird species inhabiting here have brought the park the global glory. Many species of snakes, occasional hippopotami and leopards, the most fascinating chimpanzees with swimming and snorkeling in Lake Tanganyika among 100 kinds of colorful cichlid fishes make this park a worth visiting one on any African Safari.
